that no significant differences existed between the woody plant or shrub density <br />values for the two reclaimed sites but both sites has significantly fewer woody <br />plants and shrubs than did the Grassland Reference Area. <br />Species diversity was evaluated according to the standard contained in <br />the Southfield Mine Permit. On the 1983 reclaimed site, the four dominate plants <br />contributed 91.2 percent of the total plant cover, above the 80 percent limit <br />allowed by the permit. Western wheatgrass, the dominate plant species <br />contributed 39.71 percent of the total cover, approaching the 40 standard set <br />by the permit. <br />On the 1987 reclaimed site, the four dominate species contributed 71.68 <br />percent of the total plant cover, approaching the 80 percent standard <br />established by the permit. Russian thistle, an annual forb, was the dominate <br />plant contributing 28.33 percent of the total plant cover. <br />10 <br />
