2002
PITCH PROJECT
GEOTECHNICAL OBSERVATIONS -Indian Creek and Tie Camp Waste Rock Dumps
I.
A.
B.
C.
D.
E.
F.
Iudian Creek Waste Rock Dumo
"10800" Level
Site Description: Identical to that of past reports for 1996 through 2001.
2002 Observations: The 2002 observations are similaz to those reported for this area
during the past 6 years. Visual inspection of the area has revealed no evidence of settling
or slumping of the dump material in 2002. Drainage channels are functioning as
designed.
"10780 - 10650" Level
Site Description: Identical to that of past reports for 1996 through 2001.
2002 Observations: The 2002 observations aze similar to past observations. Visual
inspection of the area has revealed no evidence of settling or slumping of the dump
material in 2002. Drainage channels are functioning as designed.
"10650 - 10600" Level
Site Description: Identical to that of the past reports for 1996 through 2001.
2002 Observations: In October 2001 an obstruction was removed from Piezometer
IC 10600, allowing it to be used for the collection of piezometric surface data. The
maximum annual water level fluctuation observed in this piezometer was 0.4 feet, which
is an acceptable seasonal variation.
"10725 - 10525" Level
Site Description: Identical to that of past reports for 1996 through 2001. The minor
overlap between [his level and other bench designations reflects the original bench
configuration.
2002 Observations: Piezometers IC 10600 and IC10525 bound this azea. Water levels in
IC10525 have remained in an equilibrium condition w$h only a minor seasonal
fluctuation of 0.7 feet in a total dump thickness of about 228.8 feet. Data from IC10600
showed a similar seasonal fluctuation with a maximum range of 0.4 feet. HMC will
continue to monitor this piezometer in the future and review the data for any anomalies.
"10600 -10400" Level
Site Description: Identical to that of past reports for 1996 through 2001.
2002 Observations: The 2002 observations are similar to past years. Piezometer IC 10440
was located in this azea however; it was lost in September 1996. Piezometer IC10525
can also be considered to be within the area. The 2002 data for that piezometer is
described above.
"10400 -10370" Level
Site Description: Identical to that of the past reports for 1996 through 2001.
2002 Observations: The 2002 observations are similar to past years. Piezometer IC10360
is located in this area. Water levels in this piezometer averaged about 10141.7 feet above
