• thickness were recorded. <br />Soil thickness was determined at the 37 sites shown on Exhibit 92.2. Soil thickness <br />information for each sample site is listed in Table 92.7. Information pertaining to the color <br />and texture of soil is contained in Peabody's files and is available upon request from the <br />Western Division office in Flagstaff, Arizona. <br />The Pit 7 reclamation area has two different soil thickness requirements; 10 inches for the <br />rangeland and 75 inches for the dryland pasture es shown on Exhibits 27-2 and 22-3 of the <br />approved permit. Soil thickness ranged from 8 to 21 inches with a mean of 74 inches for 73 <br />sites in the rangeland pastmine lend use area. Soil thickness ranged from 10 to 25 inches <br />with a mean of 17 inches for 23 sites in the dryland pasture postmine land use area. Both <br />mean soil thickness values exceed the minimum mean soil replacement thickness for bond <br />liability which is 70 inches for rangeland end 75 inches for dryland pasture. <br />The soil thickness at site 25 is not representative and was not included in the calculation of <br />mean soil thickness for rangeland. Site 25 still contains 3 feet of stockpiled soil overlying <br />• the native soil pedon. <br />Soil Fertility <br />Replaced soil was sampled, tested and evaluated for fertility to ensure optimum germination, <br />seeding emergency, end root grouch conditions. <br />Soil subsamples for fertility analysis were collected on Mey 20 end 21, 1992 from the same 37 <br />sites used to measure soil thickness. Four or five subsamples were composited into each <br />fertility sample as specified in the approved permit. Soil materiel was very homogenous <br />consisting mostly of reddish brown sandy clay loam. The soil was placed in clean, labeled, <br />canvas storage bags and was kept cool and dry to limit chemical Changes. The samples were <br />shipped to Inter-Mountain Laboratories in Sheridan, Yyoming for analysis. The soil analysis <br />methods are listed in Table 92.2. <br />Laboratory results for the eight soil samples are presented in Attachment 92.2. Fertility <br />levels considered adequate to obtain good plan[ establishment, site stability, floristic <br /> diversity, end moderate productivity ere listed in Table 92.3. These fertility levels are <br /> recommended for native and improved range grasses. The soil in the Pit 1 reclamation area has <br />• a high to excellent fertility status for soil reaction end total nitrogen (nitrate plus <br /> ammonium).
