Mined Land Reclamation October 3, 1985 Page 2
Station U-8 was set within 207 feet east, and 99 feet south
of the requested coordinates. This position was chosen so
that reference stations D-11, D-12 U-AI and U-T2 could be
seen. In addition, new station U-11 could be seen.
Station U-10 was set within 21 feet east, and 5 feet north of
the requested coordinates. The terrain was extremely steep.
Oak Hrush and Euck Erush was very dense. The final location
was selected so that reference stations D-il and D-12 could
be seen through the timber. No other stations can be seen
from U-10. We left a 510.00 prism on Station U-10 so it
would not be necessary to return to it again. It is not
possible to occupy U-10 with an instrument. All monitoring
will have to be accomplished from D-11 and D-12. U-10 is
located on a dormant landslide. The area is well vegetated
and does not show evidence of slipping for the past several
years. I am certain, though, that the area will slide again
simply because it is very steep, and not due to mining
activity.
Station U-11 is located approximately 150 feet west of the
center of a drainage channel. It is located on a steep brush
covered slope at a paint 495 feet west, and 215 feet north of
the requested coordinates. The final location was chosen so
the point can be seen from D-10, D-11 and U-8. The soils in
which U-il was set appeared to 6e deep, loose, moist soils
with a large quantity of organic material. I anticipate some
apparent movement of U-11 due to our inability to establish a
stable station.
A description of each sation is:
U-8: A ~-inch diameter steel pipe with a 5/8-inch threaded
bolt to accommodate the survey instrument. It is painted
orange and marked U-8.
U-10: A 40-inch length of 1-inch iron pipe driven into the
ground 0-inches (it could not be driven further>, with a 10-
feet lonq•length of 1 1/S-inch red and white steel range pole
set over the pipe. A prism is secureley wired to the top.
The range pole was fixed to the pipe by drilling a hole 1-
foot above ground and setting a nail for a pin.
U-li: A b0-inch length of I-inch steel pipe was driven to
ground line, earth was removed and the pipe driven further.
It would not became stable. Other sites were not available
because I wanted to be able to see U-IS from a minimum of 3
other stations.
