azvense) was the primary target species in alt control areas, with lesser activity directed towards areas of whiterop
• `Cardaria drabal. The applied herbicide consisted of a tank mix of 2.5 gallons of 22K Tordon and 2.5 gallons of
2,4,D with 250 gallons of water. Escort at the rate of one (1) oz. per acre was spot sprayed on the whitetop. Control
areas were sprayed in May and June. A spot spray gun was used to concentrate control activities on tazget azeas,
reducing potential impacts to adjacent desirable vegetation. The herbicide mix, based on recommendations from dte
Colorado State Extension Service, was mixed and applied by the Seneca Mine Reclamation Manager who is a
certified applicator The weed control areas will continue to be monitored in 2004 for effectiveness and necessary
retreatment.
ReveEetation Monitorina
Revegetation monitoring of permanently revegetated areas was conducted during the summer of 2003 by ESCO
Associates, Inc. The 2003 annual revegetation monitoring report is submitted as a separate document (ESCO and
SCC, 2003).
Grazine
• Long yeazlings grazed in the Pecoco Pasture during 2003. On May I Sm, 200 head were placed in the Pecoco Pasture.
On July 1st, all cattle were moved off dte Pecoco Pasture This resulted in 240 animal unit months on the Pecoco
Pasture. Since Seneca was in the process of realigning the fence and working on drainage channels in Wadge
Pasture, no cattle grazed the Wadge pasture in 2003.
This grazing scheme resuited 240 AUMs of grazing in the 210 acre Pecoco Pasture, which produced 570 AUM of
forage based on 2003 field data collected by ESCO. The grazing scheme for the Pecoco pasture resulted in 171
AUMs used. The utilization was 30%.
Seneca will conduct annual production monitoring in both Wadge Pasture and Pecoco Pastures during 2004 field
season. Since SCC must haul water to the cattle in the Wadge Pasture this pasture is not utilized as much as the
Pecoco Pasture, which has, live water. In 2003, SCC changed the Wadge pasture fence to include stock pond #29 at
the lower Wolf Creek reclaimed area. Assumptions: I long yeazling = .8 AUM, requving 648 pounds of forage per
month. One AUM requires 810 pounds of forage.
•
4
