Domtar Gypsum • ~ ----m----.~
Coatdate Quarry GOMTAR
(N)
1988 Annual Report Narrative, cont.
Control of animal damage remains to be one of the more formidiable
challenges to reclamation success. Several methods of protection and
repellent will be trialed in 1989.
Biosol, an organic sourced fertilizer and microbe enhancing
material, was used for the first time with seedling installation and will
be monitored for performance, A surface application for grass establish-
went trial is planned for 1989,
Reclamation efforts will continue with interplanting in the Gillespie,
Iron, Zinc, and Gold Hill Areas and new site development and planting
on the Uranium Hill, a highwall pre-reclamation-law area in the Southern
End of the Affected Land. 1989 plans include continuing improvements on
our irrigation systems and we have already initiated a long term fertili-
zation program via fall broadcast seeding of native yellow sweetclover
aver all reclaimed areas,
Along with the goal of an additional 1600 plants to go in the ground
during the 1989 field season, an important goal to be reached in the next
year is to evaluate and recommend action on the long term fertilization
requirements of the reclaimed land, now approaching 30 acres.
Kenneth S.
