Contour
furrows were reestablished, where necessary, at the south end of Pit 1. A small area near the top
of the graded slope on the west edge of the 1986 reclaimed area was regraded and reseeded and
earthen berths were cotuttucted to limit wind exposure and erosion. Check dams were established
in the upper and middle portions of the Pond D drainage west of the mine entrance road. A small
berm was installed on the outride perimeter of the shop/warehouse for erosion control. Gullies
and contour furrows were repaired on reclaimed slope of the shop/warehouse.
8.0 TOPSOIL STOCKPILES
There aze approximately 3.3 acres of topsoil stockpiles rema;n;ng at the mine area. No material
removal or reclamation was conduced in these azeas in 2000.
9.0 SURFACE FACILITIES
As shown on the 2000 Rec]amation Map, the rem,;~;~g permanent facilities (roads, buildings, and
ponds) in the Mme area cover approximately 35 acres. Permanen[ facilities in the Loadout area
cover approximately 6 acres.
10.0 LOADOUT AREA
Final reclamation activities were completed for the Loadout area (approximately 5 acres) doting
1999. Due to a relatively dry spring, germination from the 1999 permanent revegetation seeding
was only poor to fair. The Loadout area was, therefore, re-seeded in Ocober 2000 ruing the same
seed mix as in 1999 (Table 68A). The application rate for grass species was 24 pounds per acre,
twice the prescribed rate. Shmbs and forts were seeded at the prescribed rate.
11.0 GRAZING
Based on a stocking evaluation by David Buckner of ESCO Associates, livestock grazing was
conduced during a 2-week period between June 6 and 19, 2000 within the entire fenced area. The
2000 stocking rate was approximately 400 AUM's (cow/call) of cattle from the neazby Silver Spur
Ranch. Grazing resuhed in fairly effecive cropping of live vegetation over most of the northern
720 Pit area, porciotu of the Marr Pit and the southern portion of the Pit 1 area. Effecs of grazing
will be evaluated in spring 2001 and be one of the considerations in setting the 2001 stocking rate.
12.0 REVEGETATION SUCCESS EVALUATION
Revege[ation success sampling was completed in 1999 on the pre-1986, 1995, and 1996 reclaimed
areas. The resulu of this sampling were contained in a report prepared by ESCO Associates Inc.
dated Febntary 2000. This reporc was forwarded to the DMG. This evaluation included cover,
