They were referred to
as the H-10 area, 4 Dip area, B-6 area and the area east of B-6.
The H-10 area connects to the 4 Dip and B-6 area at approximately
elevations 6028 and 6100 respectively. The B-6 area connects to
the area east of B-6 at approximately elevation 6050.
Area H-10 has not yet achieved its maximum water elevation of 6100.
It has been relatively stable at elevation 6069 since April 1992.
Water levels in the H-10 monitoring well indicate the 4-Dip area is
completely full.
Area B-6 has achieved its maximum water elevation of 6050. Water
from the B-6 area is now likely flowing to the area east of B-6 and
out into the alluvium of the North Fork of the Gunnison River.
There is no way to measure the water level in the area east of B-6.
However, the water level east of B-6 will always be less than or
equal to the elevation of the water in B-6.
The abandoned B-Seam portal at the Elk Creek facility is at about
elevation 6100. Therefore, the water in the abandoned Somerset
Mine does not currently threaten to flow out of the mine.
Monitoring well WSC DH12 was noted as dry during the year.
A total of 24,394,000 gallons was pumped from the North Fork of the
Gunnison River at the Culinary Water Intake. Of that quantity,
14,802,100 gallons (45.4 acre-feet) was used by the mine and
9,591,900 gallons (29.4 acre-feet) was used by the Town of
Somerset.
The mine dewatering system discharged a total of 235.2 acre-feet
during the year. The average discharge for the year was 140.9
gallons per minute.
1
1

1

1
