{
• February 13, 1985
Edward Bischoff
Page 2
6. Success of the revegetation effort has been varied. Comments on
success are listed in the order shown on the attached sheets.
The bushes planted on the terraced slopes rooted and grew well
overall.
Grasses planted on the terraced benches did very well, but the
grasses planted on the slopes did not germinate at all.
The trees planted on the terraced benches in the Fall of 1983 did
not do well. Their relatively large size, the severe Hinter
conditions at the site and the initial lack of irrigation are
suspected as the reasons for the poor success rate. Irrigation
of some of the trees after a drip system was installed did help a
few of the trees survive.
There was varied success with the bushes planted on the terraced
benches. The American Plwn and Choke Cherry did fairly well, but
the Mountain Dlahogany and Skunkbush Sumac seemed to do less well.
The Ash trees planted on Bench 1 did quite well. They were about
18" to 24" in size and took hold well.
None of the unirrigated trees and shrubs planted at the crest
survived. Lack of irrigation seems to be the major problem with
loss of these plants.
The grasses broadcast on the slopes of the terraces did not appear
;` ~ i~ to germinate. These slopes did not have topsoil spread on them,
~:,~ ~ so failure in this area is suspected to be due to the lack of
L~:' k topsoil and steepness of the slopes.
~.
x During 1983, an area was seeded for slope stabilization, as
shown on the map.
Some success was experienced with this area. A fairly even, although
somewhat thin, grass cover was obtained. Some minor erosion
was experienced in this area, but the grass cover seemed to be of
benefit in stabilizing this area.
7. Robinson Brick plans to advance into mining stage ~2. An additional
4.5 acres will be disturbed.
Please acknowledge receipt of this annual report, map and check for $350.00
by signing the attached copy in the appropriate space and returning it to us.
Sincerely,
ROBINSON BRICK COMPANY
~~~i~~~~
Dlichael G.
