PROJECT q1 - 2 Dam Re-Slope and Cap
• R2 Dam is approximately one mde in length and is the noAh tailing dam for Robinson Pond Tha tlam
face was an over-steepened, coarse tailing dam with erosion and dust control issues
• lit Dam face was graded to a nominal 2 5' 1 capped with approximately 1 5' oI dean material from the
Cirque Slide, and seeded. Additionally, the eroded tailing at the toe o/ 2 Dam was re-graded and seeded
to improve aesthetics and reduce dust generation
PROJECT At2 -Robinson Tailing Pond Cap
• Robinson Tailing Pond will not be required for future mining adivAies at the Climax Mlne. Approximately
300 acres of the surface had previously been capped and reclamation has been occurring on the south
and west sides over the last eight years. The pool area was approximately 150 acres of exposed,
oxidized tailing wAh a 1luduating water pool. The exposed tailing surface had a significant visual impad
and contributed to atr-home dust issues
The work in 2005 focused on capping approximately 95 acres of the exposed tailing to allow for re-
vegetation of the surface. Geo-grid was utilized support equipment on the tailing surface and reduced the
total amount of fill material hauled.
A Technical Revision to the Mine PennR was obtained from the Coforatlo Division of Minerals antl
Geology to allow for a remaining wet pool cover o1 approximately 85 acres. The wet pool cover
significantly reduced the total cost for dosure versus cappng the entire surface and will allow for
development of wetland ecosystems in the most tl~cuR areas to cover.
_ tr-Y yr .~.: i
~-
- _ ...
