III. Man: <br />The monitoring locations for the first half of 2004 are displayed on the First-Half 2004, <br />Subsidence Map. The map also indicates the location of the longwall face on a monthly <br />basis. <br />IV. Vegetation Monitoring: <br />Vegetation monitoring (riparian survey) for the 16-Right panel is scheduled for the first <br />week in September. The vegetation monitoring report, which will evaluate any changes <br />in riparian vegetation conditions and chazacteristics for Fish Creek relative to the <br />measured baseline conditions, will be included with the Second-Half 2004 Subsidence <br />Report. <br />V. Hvdrologic Monitoring: <br />Hydrologic monitoring of potential subsidence impacts from the 16-Right panel utilizes <br />two alluvial wells and two surface sites. The upstream alluvial well is designated as <br />AVF-13 and the downstream alluvial well as AVF -14. The upstream site is designated <br />as SW-13 and the downstream site as SW-14. Note that AVF-14 and SW-14 were <br />subsided in 2003. <br />Hydrologic monitoring of potential subsidence impacts from the 17-Right panel also <br />utilizes two alluvial wells and two surface sites. These include alluvial well AVF-15 <br />(downstream of AVF-14) and the associated surface site SW-15 (downstream of SW-14), <br />which aze located in an area currently being subsided, and downstream surface site 305 <br />and it's associated alluvial well, 008-AU3. Sites 305 And 008-AU3 represent non- <br />subsidence downstream sites. These sites (with exception of downstream sites 305 and <br />008-AU3) aze shown on the attached First-Half 2004 Subsidence Map. Period of record <br />data tables for these sites are also attached. <br />As discussed in the Second-Half 2003 Subsidence Report and the 2003 Annua] <br />Hydrology Report, anomalously high iron concentrations were detected at surface water <br />sites SW-14, and SW-15 in June 2003, while upstream surface site SW-13 and <br />downstream surface site 305 exhibited normal historic iron concentrations. In addition, <br />elevated iron concentrations also appeazed in alluvial wells (AVF-14, AVF-15, and 008- <br />AU3) located within and downstream of the subsidence azea during August 2003. Iron <br />concentrations in surface sites subsequently dropped dramatically (about an order of <br />magnitude) by August 2003 and have remained within historic values to date. Elevated <br />iron concentrations in alluvial wells also subsequently dropped. Results of the 2004 <br />hydrologic monitoring program have not indicated recurrence of anomalous iron <br />concentrations, to date. <br />Contacts with the laboratory that analyzed the water samples indicated that the iron <br />anomaly was probably not related to lab error.
