• contributed 7.97 percent of the total relative cover on this site. Rubber Rabbitbrush was the
most commonly encountered shrub, contributing 6.68 percent of the total relative cover on this
reclaimed site.
The final revegetation success standazd for plant cover for this site is to be determined based
upon a weighted average from the sampling of the two reference areas. However, based upon
the historic sampling of the Grassland Reference Area, where sample adequacy was obtained in
1987 and 1997 yielded a value of 40.50 percent. Ninety percent of this value would be 36.45
percent. The total cover value obtained from the 2005 reclamation sampling of 30.93 percent is
less than the probable revegetation success standard and this is not unexpected as this site was
last seeded in October 2004 and thus the sampling results obtained from this site represent only
the second yeaz's plant growth.
The locations of the 30 production transects are shown on Map 1, Southfield Mine Area -
Vegetation Transect Location Map. Copies of the original field data sheets for this area are
found in Appendix D -Copies Corley Reclamation -Production -Plant Cover Field Data Sheets.
Table 2, Southfield Mine Sample Adequacy Calculations, reveals that the plant cover on this
site at the 90 percent confidence interval was determined to equal 5. I transects.
Production. The results obtained from the 30 production transects sampled on this site are
presented in Table 7, Corley Reclamation -Production. The average total production on this site
was determined to equal 19.12 g/1/4mZ or 681.4pounds of air-dry forage per acre. Perennial
• grasses contributed an average of 14.79 g!1/4mZ or 77.4 percent of the total forage production.
Perennial forbs, contributed an average of 1.99 g/1/4mZ or 10.4 percent of the total production.
Annuals contributed a total of 2.34 g/1/4mZ or 12.2 percent of the total production.
The final revegetation success standazd for forage production is to be based upon sampling of the
two designated reference areas and by using a weighted average of these production values. No
reference area sampling was conducted during this interim monitoring and therefore, no absolute
revegetation success standazd is available. However, based upon the previous reference azea
sampling conducted on the Grassland Reference Area conducted in 1987 wherein it was
determined that forage production averaged 74.08 grams / m2 or 660.1 pounds of air dry forage
per acre and in August of 1997 wherein production was determined to average 32.55 g/1/4 m2 or
1,160 pounds of air dry forage per acre. Using these historic reference area data, the relative
revegetation success standazd for forage production would be approximately 25.54 g/1/4 m2 or
910 pounds of air dry forage per acre.
The 19.12 grams / 1 /4 m2 or 681.4 pounds of air dry forage per acre obtained from the 2006
monitoring is less than the probable revegetation success standard of 22.99 (90% of 25.54) g/1/4
m2 and this is not unexpected since the 2006 sampling represents revegetation that was last
seeded only in October 2004 and would be plant growth at only the end of the second yeaz's
growing season. However, this value is very encouraging for only two growing seasons.
Table 2, Southfield Mine Sample Adequacy Calculations, reveals that the forage production on
. this site at the 90 percent confidence interval was determined to equal 23.7 transects.
