DATA ANALYSIS
Data were first analyzed Dy individual transact and then summarized to
provide results by area. Cover data are reported by percent cover for
vegetation species, litter, rock and bare ground (Table 1). Shrub density on
the reclaimed area is presented as number/hectare and number/acre for
individual species (Table 2).
In addition to sample adequacy, a t-test for equality xas used to determine
how similar the reclaimed and Mixed Shrub reference areas were (Table 3)•
The formula used xas:
to =
Xj - Xi
Spz nj + ni
C(n')(ni)~
0
Where: to =estimated t-valve xhich is compared to tabular t-valve
x2 =mean
s variance
n = sample size
i = reference area
j2 =reclaimed area
Sp mi + mi
nj+ni~-2
m = (n-1)s
RESDLTS
After reviewing the data collected on both the reclaimed and Mixed Shrub
reference areas it can be concluded that no ill affect occurred due to the
grazing of cattle on the reclaimed area when compared to the reference area.
The total vegetative cover on the reclaimed area xas 16.60 percent xhile the
cover on the reference area was only 6.83 Percent.
The reclaimed area may have been adversely affected by grazing if the cattle
had remained on the area for a longer period of time and if significant
rainfall had not occurred after grazing had been stopped.
It can also be concluded, from the t-test for equality, that the reclaimed
and Mixed Shrub reference areas are not equal at this time.
