~~

AREA SUBJECT TO EFFLUENT LIMITATION GUIDELINES
As before noted, there is no runoff from the 3 level dump.
Where vehicle tires have compacted the soil, road surfaces may
temporarily hold water in potholes.
The 6 level dump area is partially composed of clayey rock
derived from the mine. Where it is permanently wetted, such as
by the 2 to 3 gpm flow of mine water coming out the portal, the
dump material will permit a surface flow. However, even that has
sunk back into the ground before it departs the site. On the
three or four occasions when the writer has been on the site at
the time of a thunderstorm, no runoff from them has been noted.
Where Deadman Gulch and its tributary (see site map) cross
the dump there was flow for about two months in the Spring of 1995.
These drainages have intermittent flow but, prior to the Spring of
1995 when heavy, wet snows contributed mightily to the snowpack
and rapid Spring runoff, no flow had been noted in the lower part
of this drainage in the last 15 to 20 years. Home construction
had taken place in the outflow area downslope with apparent dis-
regard for potential damage by water from the drainage, probably
because of the lack of observed flow. The Alferd Packer Massacre
Site is also in this outflow area and appears to have been rela-
tively unaffected in the time that it has been there, many tens
of years.
SITE MAP
Two site maps are included with this SWMP, one for the 3 Level
Dump Area and another for the 6 Level Dump Area. There is_alsn an
index map showing the locations of the dumps relative to one an-
other.
As before stated, no runoff from the 3 Level dump has ever
been noted. No equipment is permanently stationed outside on this
level except for a generator and compressor which are portable but
are used when mining operations are underway. Front end loaders
are also employed but are not ordinarily left on site. The gener-
ator and compressor are serviced where they are located while the
front end loader would be serviced wherever it is convenient. Any
of the surface area of the dump might be used for materials (waste
or ore) storage. The entire dump is, literally, waste rock stor-
age. There is no flow of water, either permanent or intermittent,
across this site. None of this area is surfaced with asphalt or
any other impervious material.
No surface runoff during storm events has been noted on the
6 Level dump or site area either. However, there is a 2 to 3 gpm
flow from the 6 Level portal which runs across the surface of the
dump and down the face of the dump where it sinks into the dump
and disappears before departing the site. This has been observed
by a number of people including inspectors from the Division of
Minerals and Geology. Intermittent drainage down Deadman Gulch
and from the side drainage shown on the map merges below the berm
below the diesel fuel tank (which is not used) and flows down
across the dump just north of the generator and compressor loca-
tions to where it flows off the dump and back into Deadman Gulch
drainage. This is an inherited situation from prior operators
(2.)
