•
ENTRANCE AREA - Just inside the entrance to the operation from Bradley
Road is approximately a 3 acre area which has been graded and was
planned for planting a few years ago. Unfortunately, due to
circumstances beyond the control of Daniels Sand Company, seeding was
not applied. However, invasion of roadside grasses from the highway and
other adjacent areas has established a moderately diverse vegetation on
this area. By agreement with the Division, this area will be seeded
during the 1986 planting season in order to strengthen the vegetation
which has invaded the area. Therefore, this area would be considered to
be under revegatation.
RULE 2.41(4): THE SPECIES OF VEGETATION PLANTED, THE LOCATIONS AND
APPROXIMATE DATES OF PLANTING.
No planting was done during the past year.
RULE 2.41(5): THE TYPE AND APPROXIMATE QUANTITY OF FERTILIZERS, ORGANIC
MATERIAL, OR SOIL CONDITIONERS USED AND LOCATION OF USE.
Not applicable as no planting was done in the past year.
RULE 2.41(6): AN APPRAISAL OF THE SUCCESS OF RECLAMATION EFFORTS, AND
IN THE EVENT OF FAILURE OF ANY EFFORTS, A SHORT NARRATIVE ON THE
SUSPECTED OR DETERMINED CAUSE OF SUCN FAILURE.
There has been little reclamation work performed at this operation
in the past due to the fact that the operation is still in the expansion
stages of development. However, in this area the success rate for
revegetation work is moderate to good depending upon the type of medium
used. Where even minor amounts of soil are used the success rate is
rather good, but when just the sand is planted the success rate is
moderate at best and generally borders on poor. The only exception to
this is on relatively level areas where the success rate can be almost
as good without soil as it is with soil, provided species adapted to
sandy conditions are used.
RULE 2.41(7): ESTIMATES OF THE LOCATION AND NUMBER OF ACRES TO BE
AFFECTED IN THE COMING YEAR.
During the next year, most of the extraction work will continue in
Phase Ie. Some expansion of already opened areas in Phase IIe will also
occur, but most of the mining will be in Phase Ie. At presen[, there is
about 33 acres involved in extraction activities, not including the
ditch excavation area. It is expected that this amount will expand to
about 40 acres in the next year.
FILE 73-7 JAN. 10, 1986 PAGE 3 OF 4 ANNUAL REPORT
