Creek and cause a further increase in TDS values due to evapotranspiration which •
concentrates salts in these reservoirs. TDS values fluctuate from year to year for the
same reasons previously discussed for Site 10.
For Site 12, TDS and sulfate values have been plotted on one graph, manganese values
(total and dissolved) on a second and zinc values on a third (see Appendix H). Review of
the TDS/sulfate graph indicate no discernible long-term trend. No discernible long-term
trends are evident for manganese and zinc also.
Surface Water Site Sw-S2-11. This site was instituted in May, 1987, and monitors Fish
Creek upstream of its confluence of Cow Camp Creek. It is monitored May through September
on a monthly basis and only if either Sites 10 or 12 are flowing. Pater at this site is a
CaMg-HC03 S04 type (see Table 16, Appendix A). This site is upstream of Seneca mine
discharges; therefore, its water chemistry is primarily the result of natural or
background conditions.
TDS and sulfate values have been plotted for Site 11 (see Appendix H). When reviewing
this graph, one must keep in mind [hat for the last two years as a result of an approved •
change in the monitoring program, water quality samples were taken only in May and June
(as opposed to Nay through September in prior years). No discernible long-term trends are
apparent.
Surface Pater Site Sw-52-13. This site was instituted in May 1987 and monitors Fish Creek
downstream of its confluence with Bond Creek. It is monitored Nay through September an a
monthly basis end only if either Sites 10 or 12 ere flowing. Maier at this site is a
CaMg-HC0350` type (see Table 16, Appendix A). The increases in TDS values from Site 11 to
Site 13 were only 12 mg/l in Mey end actually decreased in June by 4 mg/l. This data
strongly indicates that the discharges of Bond end Cow Camp Creeks (and, therefore, the
discharges of the Seneca II Mine) have an insignificant impact on Fish Creek.
TDS end sulfate values have been plotted for Site 13 (see Appendix N). As with Site 11
(see above), only May end June date for the last two years has been collected. No
discernible long-term trends are apparent.
To summarize water quality in the Fish Creek basin, it appears that the Seneca II Mine has •
little, if any, impact on Fish Creek. water discharged from the mine is lost to stock
16
