,~ ~ .ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
PIKEVIEW QUARRY
1994 ANNUAL REPORT
PERMIT #M-77-211
ITEM 6:
a. The northern portion of the yuarry is currently being backfilled with waste. This will
create a rounded hillside. Once the backfilling of the benches is completed, the site will be
topsoiled. It is expected that this will be completed by this time next year.
b. Grading, as a separate operation, is not really a part of the plan. Grading is done as
areas are backfilled and/or topsoiled.
c. On the annual report map is shown those lands that are under revegetation. These
lands have all been seeded with various mixtures identified m the permit.
d. Much of the land that has been seeded has been topsoiled. The roadside revegetation
was not topsoiled, nor was the land just east of the office. This was noted in previous reports.
ITEM 7: Fertilizer was used on the roadside revegetation when that was done about ]0 years
ago. Otherwise, no soil amendments are used on any of the revegetation areas. Experience has
shown that it is not needed.
ITEM 8: The location and extent of future mining will be dependent upon the status of the
amendment to be submitted about the same time as this annual report is provided.
ITEM 9: ADDITIONAL COMMENTS -
REVISED PLANS: During the past year, revisions to the quarry permit have been
under negotiation with representatives of the community and have been under preparation since
last August or September. These revisions, which contain the Enhanced Reclamation Plans as
well as Castle Concrete's new base reclamation plan, will be submitted for review by the
Division about the same time this annual report is provided. These plans totally redesign the
operation, remove land from the affected land, and alter the entire process of creating and
reclaiming benches produced through the mining. The plans also provide for overexcavating
the base of the quarry backwall, followed by backfilling with waste generated by the
processing of the limestone. This overexcavation will replace the reserves lost through removal
of currently undisturbed lands from the affected land area.
THE 1993 SLIDE: The slide that occurred in early January 1993 has been stabilized.
Monitoring of the stake lines designed to detect motion in the mass has shown that no motion
has occurred since the system was installed a few weeks after the slide. It appears that the slip
zone that produced the slide was eliminated by the slide itself. Because the material is
unconsolidated, it is possible that future sliding could occur, but the probability of this is very
remote.
