• Savage and Savage
Memorandum
To: Donald W. MacDonald, Coors Energy Company
From: Michael Savage, Savage and Savage, Inc.
Date: August 15, 2002
Subject: Thvd Quarter 2002 Pest and Disease Inspection; Keenesburg Mine
File #: C-81-028
On August t5, 2002 I inspected the reclaimed and revegetated areas at the Keenesburg
Mme for evidence of plant pests or diseases that could affect the re-established vegetation
at the Keenesburg Mine.
All reclaimed and revegetated areas of the mine were inspected by vehicular and
pedestrian means. I did not identify any disease conditions at any of the reclaimed and
revegetated azeas. Nor did I identify any plant pests which had affected the gowth of the
vegetation during the past growing season. No bare areas, or azeas which experienced any
infestation or blight were found during the inspection.
• The extremely dry conditions have impacted vegetation growth at the mine in several
ways. Revegetated areas reveal little overall currem yeaz growth in the cool season plant
species. Warm season plant species are showing some growth but will not produce
significant flowers or seed this season. The lack of growing season moisture (total 2002
precipitation through July is 4,28 inches, and September-July precipitation was 6.46
inches, lowest recorded) has had the positive benefit of largely curtailing cheatgrass and
annual fort growth, Tn several areas, this has removed competition and allowed
establishment of native perennial warm season graminoids.
c: Keenesbnrg Pest and Disease Inspection Fite
•
AHR-2002 -43-
