C J
•
Soil in stockpiles (Table 00.1) _ . 73.1 acre-feet
Mean replacement depth = 0.75 feet (9 inches),
Since no additional azeas will be mined or disturbed, this topsoil balance and average replacement
depth will be used fox the remainder of the reclaimed lands at Seneca II-W Mine. '
An exhaustive sampling was conducted during 2005 over the entire mine site. The overall topsoil
replacement thickness averaged 1.9 feet (22.9 inches). The data is presented in Table 05.6 and on the
2005 Soil/Spo$ Sample Locations map.
Tab 21, Minesoil Reconstruction, in the PAP, indicates an estimated average of 1.3 feet (15.6 inches)
would be replaced over final graded spoil in the North II-W azea, however sampling measurements
show that 22.9 inches were actually replaced. This indicates that more topsoil was originally removed
during initial disturbance than anticipated.
Tab 21, Minesoil Reconstruction (PR-OS) also indicates an estimated average of 1:6 feet (19.2 inches)
would be replaced over final graded spoil in the South II-W azea, however 2005 sampling
measurements show that 22.9 inches were actually replaced. Permit Revision OS and discussions with
the Division have detemvned that variable replacement thicknesses over the remaining azea would be
desirable. As shown in the topsoil balance above, a rniuimum average of 1.1 feet is available, however
this does not account for permanent facilities that will not require topsoil replacerirent. Therefore the
estimated topsoil balance will be close to what will be actually replaced.
A total of 226.3 acres were seeded in 2005. The majority of the azea was seeded using Seed Mix #1
(see Table 05.2, Seed Mix #1, for constituents).
• Seeding and Sbrub Planting i
Of the 226.3 acres seeded/planted, 22.6 acres aze newly established shrub plots. These shrub sites
were established in the TS pond, South Wadge and Neck pit areas. The sites were prepared by
roughening the soil with small hummocks in an attempt to increase snow water retention. These areas
were hand seeded with Concentrated Shrub Seeding Mix #6 (see Table 05.3,E Seed Mix #6, for
consdments). ;
Shrub Plots. Approximately 17,100 seedlings and 3,100 one gallon sized shrubs and trees were
planted at II-W, locations of the sites are shown on the attached 2005 Reclamation Map.
