Petter O'Conner - King Coal - 3 - March 6, 1987
Although the operator has previously committed to not undermining Pine Gulch,
information submitted by the operator indicates that coal extraction beneath
the gulch may occur. Preliminary investigations by the Division indicate that
there is, on the average, about 100 feet of overburden between the coal and
Pine Gulch. Given the minimal amount of overburden, surface expressions of
subsidence will certainly occur, possibly dewatering Pine Gulch and any
tributary alluvial /colluvial materials. The operator should supply enough
information to satisfy the requirements of sections 2.04.7(3) (if applicable),
2.05.6(6) and 4.20, if undermining of Pine Gulch is proposed.
cc: Fred Banta
Jim Pendleton
Mike Savage
/sk
7907E
