By dividing the soil available by the area requiring soil replaced, we arrive at the 2001 soil balance thickness
of 0.7 feet for the tie-across haul road and 1.3 feet for the mine area. By this calculation we have determined
that SCC has ample topsoil in stockpiles to reclaim the mine at this point
REVEGETATION
Seedine and Plaatine
The area around the new Haut Road "P' embankments ands topsoil stockpiles were broadcast seeded and
hydro mulched using the seed mix in Table 00.2. A small azea on the east edge of the permit was seeded
with the permanent mix and hydro mulched.
Shrub Seedling Planting
SCC added shrubs to existing shrub planting sites near stockpond T-21. See Table 00.2 for species and
quantities.
Monitorine
ESCO Associates, Inc conducted revegetation monitoring of permanently revegetated areas during the
i summer of 2001. The 2001 annual revegetation monitoring report is submitted as a separate document
(ESCO and SCC, 2001).
Weed Control
Survey of noxious weeds was carried out on the mine permit area during the 2001 field season. Weed
control activities were conducted along the mine entrance road, near Pond 005, Pond 006 and Pond 009.
Canada thistle Cirsium arvense was the target species in control areas. The applied herbicide wnsisted of
a tank mix of 2.5 gallons of 22K Tordon and 2.5 gallons of 2,4,-D with 250 gallons of water. A spot spray
gun was used to concentrate control activities on target areas. The herbicide mix was determined from
Colorado State University extension offtce information and label instructions. All pesticides were applied by
an EPA certified applicator. These weed control areas will be monitored in 2002 to determine the
effectiveness of this treatment.
Wildlife Monitorine
Reporting of eagle nesting and big game (deer and elk) mortality data for the Seneca II-W survey area and a
big game aerial survey is requved per Rule 2.04.13 and Permit C-82-057, Tab 23, Page 4. Deer and elk
mortality data for the mine entrance road, tie-across haul road, and Routt County Road 53 are presented in
Table 00.3. Eight deer and one elk died on the mine entrance road and tie-across haul road from 199D
through 2001. Thirty-nine deer and six elk have been killed along Routt County Road 53 during the same
period.
