• Soil Salva¢e and Storaee
The disturbance area from which soil was salvaged and the soil stockpile sites as of December 31, 2001 are
shown on ARR map. Stockpiles TT, XX, YY and W W were established during the 2001 field season.
The actual volume of soil salvaged and stockpiled from 1989 through December 31, 2001 was determined
by field survey of existing soil storage stockpiles. The Seneca engineering staff completed the base and
existing elevations for each stockpile. The stockpile volumes as of December 31, 2001 aze listed in Table
00.1. As of December 31, 2001, 69.7 acre-feet of soil were stockpiled along the tie-across haul road and
796.9 acre-feet of soil were stockpiled in the mining area.
Soil Balance and Replacement
The soil balance is calculated for Seneca H-W Mine by comparing the disturbance area that requires soil
replacement as of December 31, 2001 with the soil reserve in stockpiles. The disturbance area for Seneca Q-
W Mine, shown on the map, with exception to the tie-across haul road, totaled 959.0 acres on December 31,
2001. No soil was salvaged or needs to be replaced beneath the soil stockpile sites. Also, since Pond 005
{4.8 acres), Pond 006 (7.9 acres), the Mine Entrance Road, Haul Road A, and Haul Road G are permanent
• postmine facilities (11.2 acres), soil will only be replaced on a portion of those roads effectively narrowing
them to 20 feet wide. Topsoil has been replaced on 347.8 acres of disturbed area through December 31,
2001. Therefore, the total disturbance area requiring topsoil as of December 3l, 200 t was 587.8 acres at the
mine site and 96.6 acres for the tie-across haul road.
Soil Replacement Thickpess
The soil replacement thickness for the first five-year permit term was projected to be ]3 feet for the mine
area and 0.7 feet for the tie-across haul road. The soil balance as of December 31, 2001 was calculated as
follows:
Mine Area
Total disturbance area = 959.0 aaes
Permanent Facilities & Topsoil replaced = 371.2 acres
Disturbance area requiring soil = 587.8 acres
Soil in stockpiles (Tab[e 00.1} = 796.9 acre-feet
Mean replacement depth = 1.36 feet
• Tie Across Haul Road
Disturbance area requiring soil - 96.6 acres
Soil in stockpiles (Table 00.1) = 69.7 acre-feet
Mean replacement depth = 0.7 feet
3
