undisturbed surrounds were tested in 1994, The test were made to
• see if the embankment and roadway material could be used as growth
media after the ponds and roadways were reclaimed. The test results
can be seen in Attachment 94.2. The test results show a deficiency
in nutrients for both the disturbed and undisturbed soil and that
both soils were very comparable. This is to be expected since the
pond embankment and roadways were constructed with the surrounding
material. The University of Colorado Soil Lab in Fort Collins,
Colorado recommends that an application of fertilizer be applied
after reclamation seeding has been completed.
Two soil samples were taken from a stockpile of growth media that
was created during the construction of Pond 007. These samples
also passed the fertility standards set by our permit C-81-008.
• This material will be used as growth media, topsoil substitute, at
New Horizon 2 mine area and will makeup for the deficiency in the
topsoil balance. See Attachment 94.1 for analysis.
Soil Salvage and Storage
All suitable soil has been salvaged ahead of mining at New Horizon
2. Approximately 102,000, 76,000, and 36,000 cubic yards of soil
are stored in stockpiles at the end of 1994. The soils were
separately stockpiled by soil types as specified by our permit.
4
