X1
~~
Between April 18 and July 7, 1989, the author, at times assisted by Marcus P. Grant and
Sharon Pay, conducted s pedestrian survey for American Indian cultural resources on
approximately 1000 acres in Dowe Flats, between Indian Mountain to the west and Rabbit
Mountain to the east, northern Boulder County, North-Central Colorado. During the
survey one archaeological site, 5BL2431, and 25 isolated finds (5BL2432 - 5BL2456) were
recorded. Site SBL2431 is recommended for limited subsurface testing prior to a
recommendation of National Register of Historic Places NRHP) eligibility. Isolated finds
5BL2432 - 5BL2456 are not recommeded eligible to the NRHP.
ABSTRACT
in addition to the survey, a search has been made of the archaeological work previously
accomplished for Indian Mountain and Rabbit Mountain adjacent to Dowe Flats. This
task was undertaken to accomplish four major goals: (1) to assemble the fragmentary
record of obscure field notes, site forms, and manuscripts available for the area and
incorporate them into a single document; and (2) to take these findings, along with
supporting archival information, and the results of this present survey, to present a
dynamic document created to better understand the histo of archaeological work; (3) to
~. better understand the prehistoric occupation of the Indian Mountain/Dowe Flats/Rabbit
Mountain area; and (4) to make recommendations for future conservationlpreservation of
the American Indian resources still existing at Dowe Flats.
.~
