' Aggregate Industries - F Street Site Characterization Report
Project Number 1001018 PnRn~oN
t October 9, 2001
Page 9
Three (3) of the 25 registered wells appear to be located downgradient of the spill and are
' located in the Northwest %< of the Southeast '/< of Section 35 (Permit Number 47856F and 2
wells without permit numbers). The fourth registered well in that quarter/quarter section
' was listed as a denied permit (Permit Number 470AD). One (1) of the three (3) apparent
dovmgradient registered wells (Permit Number 47856F) appears to screened in the shallow
alluvial aquifer based on the reported depth and is reportedly used for industrial purposes
' while the other two (2) wells did not have reported well depths.
Four (4) registered wells are located in the same quarter/quarter section as the spill site.
' Information obtained from Aggregate Industries regarding those wells is described below.
' Permit Number 23204MH: This permit is for a monitoring well. There are actually
three (3) monitoring wells at the subject site. Those wells are located adjacent to F
Street, which is upgradient to crossgradient of the spill area, and are used by
' Aggregate Industries to monitor water levels associated with gravel mining
dewatering activities.
• Permit Number 43504F: The current permit for the gravel permit. The gravel pit
' itself is the "well", therefore the spill area is within the "well".
1
1

t
1

• Permit Number 12872AD: The original well permit application for the gravel pit
which was denied.
• Permit Number 0: An application for a new gravel pit permit (filed 5/9/Ol) which
will replace existing Permit Number 43504F. The State Engineer's office requested a
new permit application rather than amending the existing permit due to an increased
area of exposed groundwater.
Potential impacts to registered wells do not appear to be likely at this time with the possible
exception of Permit Number 43504F which is the gravel pit at the subject site. To date,
concentrations of BTEX have not exceeded the MCLs in groundwater samples collected
from the site.
6.6 Nearby Surface Water Bodies
Twelve (12) surface water bodies are located within a %-mile radius of the subject site. The
approximate locations of those surface water bodies are shown on Figure 8 in Appendix A.
The' unnamed, intermittent drainage shown on Figure 8 at the spill area has been abandoned
during the on-site gravel mining operations. In a downgradient direction, the Cache La
Poudre River is located approximately 4,800 feet from the spill area. Two (2) on-site
surface water bodies which are not shown on Figure 8 are the gravel pit dewatering trenches.
The approximate locations of those trenches are shown on Figure 3 in Appendix A.
