1'agc 2 <br />Environntcntal Policy Statement <br />Calais Resources Inc. <br />Caribou Uistrict Mines <br />processes and providing high quality, non-mineralired clean granite and <br />monzonite aggregate from waste rock for both County and State road <br />projects. The Caribou Uistrict mines produce minimal water flows and <br />our goal is toapproach azero-discharge. Our facility will be zero- <br />discharge upon closure at the end of mining. <br />4. Prc-planning and careful engineering of all mine plant systems not <br />only for safe operations during the mine life but equally important for <br />the long term post mine closure period. <br />5. Aesthetic design and construction of all new plant buildings to coincide <br />with the local em•ironment and line of sight. Both noise and dust control <br />will be top priorities. <br />G. Both I{cndricks 111iningand Calais Resources have an excellent <br />record for site reclamation programs. <br />7. Calais Resources Inc. owns approximately 4S0 acres of fee title, <br />patented land at Caribou. "1'he new mine plant will occupy approximatch• <br />25 acres of that land position. Calais intends to place the balance of its <br />fee title property into a perpetual wildlife conservation and a recreation <br />district at the completion of mining, and to foster public access during <br />active operations. Both Hendricks and Calais have participated with the <br />Boulder County Parks and Open Space program, the [.iS Forest Sen•ice <br />and the Division of ~~'ildlife in the past and look forward to this on going <br />relationship in the future. <br />8. Hendricks and Calais have provided free educational lectures and site <br />tours for over 38,000 secondary, primary and college level students from <br />around the world. Phis also includes political leaders, environmentalists, <br />teachers, professors and both public and private leaders from all walks <br />of life. This policy will continue in the future. <br />9. The company plans to build and operate with local governments a <br />nature center in the old stone buildings at the Potosi Mine in the historic <br />Caribou Town site. In addition the company plans to construct up to 10 <br />miles of hiking trails with flora, fauna educational signs and Boulder <br />County history. The company plans to continue to protect all areas of the <br />environment around the mine operations as it has for the past 33 rears. <br />10.
