Re: Golden Eagle Mine: Permit No. C-81-013
199GAnnual Reclamation Report'
". - ' t~ _ ,
~ Dear Mr. Gorham:
Enclosed is the Annual Reclamation Report far the Golden Eagle Mine for 1996. The Mine ceased
production December 31, 1995. During the first quartet of 1996, equipment was recovered from the
underground mine, and raw coal inventories were shipped to the New Elk Preparation plans for benefaction
and shipping. -
' During the second quarter, remote`~'acilities wereZiisaesembled and transported to the Golden Eagletisupply
yard in preparation for disposal. 'The slope entry and four (4) ventilation shafts were sealed effectively
terminating the underground operations and access. When possible warehouse inventories of.parts and -
i supplies were rettimed to the respective vendor.
j iThe remaining_supply inventories, surface and mining equipment, and buildings were sold at.auction, ,
dismantled if necessary andiemoved from the property in August: Demo4ition of remaining facilities and
' concrete foundations began inmid-September and was completed by la[C November. Earthwork,
backfilling, grading and spreading topsoil, was completed by late December. ~ ,
Remote areas were mulched and seeded in October, the upper pazking azea,.the pond 2 azea, and a portion
of pond 5 were planted in November. Portions of the Golden Eagle Refuse Disposal Area (RDA) still
_ require addi[iooal cover [o comply with [he regulatory requirement of four feet of,cover material. Basin
- has selected a potential borrow site to obtain the necessary material. Soil samples have been collected and
• are being analyzed. The borrow area will be addressed as a technical revision to the permit.
Areas not planted, will be seeded and mulched,in early 1997, as weather permits. The RDA will be seeded
' after the cover requirements have been satisfied.
