2. Backfilling in Progress
An area at the north end of the 720 Pit is in the process of
being backfilled with overburden from Pit No. 1 and the Existing
Overburden Stockpile as shown on the attached 1989 Reclamation
Map. This area is 29.47 acres in size and is located at the
north end of the 720 Pit. During the year all overburden
removed from Pit No. 1 (approximately 16,000 BCY) was hauled and
backfilled in this area. Additionally, 565,000 compacted cubic
yards of overburden were removed from the Existing Overburden
Stockpile and placed in this area.
3. Regraded
At the northern edge of the 720 Pit, 5.09 acres are backfilled
and have been regraded to approximate original contour. This
area will be topsoiled and reseeded when enough area is prepared
to assure no further disturbance will occur on the reclaimed
area (a buffer zone) . Refer to the attached 1989 Reclamation
Map.
4. Topsoiled and Mulch Planted
No new areas were topsoiled and reseeded with stubble mulch
during the year.
5. Previously Reclaimed Area
Prior to 1987, a total of 109.09 acres had been revegetated with
perennials. Please note that this excludes the pre-1981
reclamation which was redisturbed by Pit No. 1 mining
activities. In addition, all topsoil stockpiles, sedimentation
ponds and ditches have been revegetated with perennial grasses
or annuals as appropriate. These areas are shown on the
attached 1989 Reclamation Map.
2
