J 2.05.6(3)
One of five methods is used to determine the flow at surface water monitoring stations. The
following methods aze utilized; 1) V-Notch weir; 2) corrugated metal pipe culvert utilizing pipe size,
and velocity of flow; 3) regular channel shape utilizing cross-sectional area and velocity of flow; 4)
timing flow into a bucket of known volume and; 5) estimate of flow based upon experience. The
following table shows the flow monitoring method used at the monitoring stations based upon the
above monitoring method numbers 1 - 5.
Active Monitoring Stations Flow Monitorinlr Method
B-1 Upper Bramiers Draw 3 -Regular Channel
B-2 Lower Bramiers Draw 2 -Culvert
N-1 Upper Naturita Creek 3 -Regular Channel
N-lA Upper Naturita Creek 3 -Regular Channel
N-2 Lower Naturita Creek 3 -Regular Channel
H-2 Lower Broad Creek 3 -Regular Channel
S-1 Section 33 Creek 3 -Regular Channel
R-1 Reed Chatfield Ditch 5 -Flow Estimate
SP-1 - SP-6 -All Springs 4 -Bucket
Inactive Monitoring Stations Flow Monitoring Method
H-1 Upper Broad Creek 3 -Regular Channel
C-1 Upper Center Creek 2 -Culvert
C-2 Lower Center Creek 1 -Weir
L-1 Upper Long Draw 1 -Weir
L-2 Lower Long Draw 1 -Weir
W-1 Upper Wickson Draw 3 -Regular Channel
W-2 Lower Wickson Draw 1 -Weir
Surface and underground water samples aze collected in bottles supplied by the testing laboratory.
Each water sample consists ofthree bottles, one unpreserved liter bottle and two 250 milliliter bottles,
one preserved with nitric acid and one preserved with sulfuric acid. The bottles are shipped from the
field to the testing laboratory in an ice filled cooler.
1 Water samples from the bedrock wells and the alluvial wells are taken after the wells have been
purged. At least three well volumes are evacuated in order to purge the wells in accordance with the
following table:
Well diameter in inches 3/4 I 1'/z 2 4 6
] Crallons/lineal foot of water in well 0.023 0.04 0.09 0.16 0.65 1.47
2.05-35a April 1993
