changed to show excavation occurring from M1 into M2 and M3
simultaneously in an Easterly direction. This is reflected
in the included map. The change is needed to allow for a
better transition and logical progression across M1. The
timetable for completing these areas will probably be moved
up such that M3 will be completed by 1999 at the same time as
M2. Therefore, commencement of reclamation along the fin-
ished slopes will not be delayed, and a larger area will be
available for reclamation activities, thereby improving the
economies of scale.
In order to improve operation safety, and to minimize rock-
fall hazard, an access road was driven through Mine Phases
M4-6. The approximate location of the access road is shown
on the included map. The position of the road will tend to
dissipate energy from unintentional rock fall down the South
aspect of the site. The gentler slope and lack of angularity
will also aid in the safer transport of heavy equipment to
the upper quarry walls. A planned and forthcoming Technical
Revision will better clarify the access road.
Rocks lining U.S. Highway 285 will be relocated slightly to
allow for expansion of the RTD Park and Ride. The rocks are
located predominantly off of the permit boundary and within
the highway right of way. The relocation of the rocks is an-
ticipated to occur entirely within the right of way. While
the activity is not part of the mining operation, since it is
an activity in an immediately adjacent area, the activity
will be better detailed in the forthcoming Technical Revision
in order to maintain clarity between the activities. The ac-
tivity is necessitated at the request of RTD.
RECLAMATION
Site preparation and removal of deposit stockpile material on
the proposed visual berm locations has delayed construction
of a planned visual berm, as identified in the existing per-
mit application. Disposition of this berm will be detailed
in a forthcoming Technical Revision. All other planned
reclamation is pending completion of Mine Phases M-1, M-2,
and M3.
On Thursday 8 January 1991, Gary Finstad (U.S. Soil
Conservation Service, Lakewood Field Office) accompanied my-
self and Mel Koleber (Assistant to the Director, Jefferson
County Road and Bridge) on an inspection of four of the five
active Jefferson County Colorado mining operations. Mr.
Finstad's experience and oversight is considered a fundamen-
tal and valued component of our overall revegetation strat-
egy.
As with the other sites that were inspected, Mr. Finstad will
be provided relevant permit documents pertinent to this site.
1/31/91 Annual Report to the Colorado Mined Land Reclamation Division 3
Jefferson County Colorado, Permit M-77-245, Pine Junction Quarry.
