PORTLAND PLANT QUARRY -- PER2*77-344 • Page 4
the area ahead of stripping in Cut 5. The trees were transplanted with
as much surrounding soil as possible and were trimmed back after trans-
planting. Of the four (4) , one (1) died, one (1) is questionable and
two (2) appear healthy. A previous experiment in transplanting without
trimming back the transplanted trees resulted in the loss of all the
trees.
A test plot of approximately one (1) acre was seeded in 1979. This plot
was divided into six (6) strips with the following grasses:
Sideouts Grama NM-28 Crested Wheatgrass Fainaays
Sideouts Grama Vaughn Streambank Wheatgrass Sodar
Tndian Ricegrass Little Bluestem Pastura
The two grasses, Little Bluestem Pastura and Sideoats Grama NM-28, have
not been successful, while the remainder have established strong growths.
Further reclamation planting in this area will rely heavily on these four
(4) successful grasses.
(7) Estimates and Location and Number of Acres to be Affected in the Coming
Year.
All new disturbance in the coming year is projected to be approximately
12 acres in Cut 5.
