1 • • <br />3.3 INSTALLATION OF BARBED WIRE <br />A. Terminate the barbed wire at each end post, gate post, corner post, and intermediate <br />line post. Each line of barbed wire shall be wrapped around the terminating post and <br />shall be spliced to itself with at least four turns. <br />B. At each line post, each line of barbed wire shall be fastened to the post. Tie wire and <br />wire clamps shall be galvanized wire as hereinbefore specified. <br />C. Splices of barbed wire between posts will be permitted provided that no more than one <br />' splice occurs in any one "run" of fence. In final position the barbed wire shall be free <br />from sag. <br />D. In crossing gullies, ditches, and abrupt depressions where the bottom line of the fence <br />as normally constructed leaves an unfenced opening beneath it exceeding 12 inches in <br />height, an additional pane or additional panels of fence between line posts shall be <br />provided across said opening with barbed wire, woven wire fabric, or combination <br />thereof furnished as may be approved by the RESIDENT PROJECT <br />REPRESENTATIVE so that at no point along the fence will there be side openings or <br />bottom openings exceeding 4 inches in dimension. Along ground or minor surface <br />irregularity where the bottom line of the fence as normally constructed leaves an <br />unfenced opening beneath it of 12 inches or less, the normal fabric and wires shall be <br />pulled down between posts and anchored by means of pins or posts, driven not less than <br />24 inches into the ground, so that at no point along the fence will there be any bottom <br />opening exceeding 4 inches in height. <br />I, E. Upon completion, the fence shall be straight between corners. All posts shall be <br />vertical and firmly set. All braces, fittings, and fixtures shall be tight and firm, and <br />all barbed wire shall be free from warp and sag. <br />3.4 VERTICAL FENCE STAYS <br />A. Vertical fence stays shall be installed midway between posts. The wire shall be twisted <br />to permit weaving into the horizontal fence wires to provide rigid spacing. All barbed <br />wires shall be woven into the stay. <br />3.5 CLEANUP <br />' A. Upon completion of the fence and at such times during the construction as the <br />RESIDENT PROJECT REPRESENTATIVE may direct, clean the fence construction <br />area of trash, debris, and rack. Dispose of excavated material from the fence post <br />holes as directed by the Constructed Manager. <br /> <br />6-20 <br />
