<br />be done, it shall conform to the requirements of ACI 305. If cold weather <br />concreting is to be done, it shall conform to the requirements of ACI 306. <br />2. Place concrete in compliance with the practices and recommendations of ACI <br />304. <br />3. Deposit concrete continuously or in layers of such thickness that no concrete will <br />be placed on concrete which has hardened sufficiently to cause the formation of <br />seams or planes of weakness within the section. Perform concrete placing at such <br />a rate that concrete which is being integrated with fresh concrete is still plastic. <br />Deposit concrete as nearly as practicable to its final location to avoid segregation <br />due to rehandling or flowing. Do not subject concrete to any procedure which <br />will cause segregation. <br />' 4. Do not use concrete which becomes nonplastic and unworkable or which has been <br />contaminated by foreign materials. Do not use retempered concrete. Removal <br />rejected concrete from the project site and dispose of in an acceptable location. <br />5. Handle concrete from the mixer to the place of fmal deposit as rapidly as <br />' practicable and in a manner which will assure an acceptable quality concrete is <br />obtained. <br />6. Provide conveying equipment of proper size and design to ensure a continuous <br />flow of concrete at the delivery end. Conveying equipment will be subject to the <br />RESIDENT PROJECT REPRESENTATIVE's approval. <br />G. Backfilling <br />' 1. After the CIP concrete bulkhead seal has achieved sufficient strength as indicated <br />by the RESIDENT PROJECT REPRESENTATIVE, the adit opening will be <br />backfilled with on-site rock. Prior to backfilling, the Subcontractor must remove <br />all exposed forms, garbage, cribbing, or other materials as directed by the <br />RESIDENT PROJECT REPRESENTATIVE. All trash and debris must be <br />hauled to an approved landfill. <br />' 2. Rock bulkhead sealed adits shall be backfilled from the face of the cast-in-place <br />concrete seal to a minimum 3 feet over fill past the odic opening. There shall be <br />no spaces between the top of the fill and the roof of the adit that exceed 3 inches <br />and there shall be no space between the top of the fill and the roof of the odic at <br />the entrance of the odic. The backfill shall consist of large rocks (riprap) whose <br />individual size is a minimum 1 foot in largest dimension mixed with fill, with the <br />outer 3 feet of backfill wnsisting entirely of rock. <br />' 3. Alternatively, where acceptable rock is not available, or where directed by the <br />RESIDENT PROJECT REPRESENTATIVE, asoil-cement mixture may be used. <br />The soil cement will consist of on-site soil and portland cement in a ratio of 20:1 <br />(20 units of soil to 1 unit of cement). The on-site materials must be well-graded, <br />' 6-13 <br />
