1 <br />3. Aggregate shall conform to ASTM C33. Maximum size of coarse aggregate shall <br />be 3/4 inch. <br />4. For adit openings up to 8 feet in the largest direction, rock wall thickness shall <br />be 30 inches. For openings 8 feet to 10 feet in the largest direction, the thickness <br />' shall be 30 inches. For openings 10 feet to 12 feet in the lazgest direction, the <br />thickness shall be 42 inches. <br /> D. Drain Pipe <br /> Not Used. <br /> <br /> E. I3ackfilling <br /> 1. After the rock bulkhead seal has achieved sufficient strength as indicated by the <br /> RESIDENT PROJECT REPRESENTATIVE, the adit opening will be backfilled <br /> with on-site rock. Prior to backfilling, the Subcontractor must remove all <br /> exposed forms, garbage, cribbing, or other materials as duected by the <br /> RESIDENT PROJECT REPRESENTATIVE. All trash and debris must be <br /> hauled to an approved landfill. <br />t <br /> 2. Rock bulkhead sealed adits shall be backfilled from the face of the rock bulkhead <br /> seal to a minimum 3 feet over fill past the odic opening. There shall be no spaces <br />' between the top of the fill and the roof of the adit that exceed 3 inches and there <br /> shall be no space between the top of the fill and the roof of the adit at the <br />' entrance of the odic. The backfill shall consist of large rocks (riprap) whose <br />individual size is a minimum 1 foot in lazgest dimension mixed with fill, with the <br /> outer 3 feet of backfill consisting entirely of rack. <br />3. Alternatively, where acceptable rock is not available or where directed by the <br />RESIDENT PROJECT' REPRESENTATIVE, a soil~ement mixture may be used. <br />The soil cement will consist of on-site soil and portland cement in a ratio of 20:1 <br />(20 units of soil to 1 unit of cement). The on-site materials must be well graded <br />and approved by the RESIDENT PROJECT REPRI:SIjIVTATIVE. They may not <br />be acidic or toxic in nature. Soil materials and portland cement shall be <br />thoroughly blended by mechanical means prior to placement. This may be done <br />by machine or by hand. The entire length of the backfill, except the last 3 feet, <br />shall be composed of soil-cement materials. The last 3 feet of backfill shall <br />consist entirely of rack. <br />' 4. The adit will be overfilled with rock a minimum of 3 feet to allow for future <br />backfill subsidence. The maximum exposed backfill slope will be determined in <br />the field by the RESIDENT PROJECT REPRESENTATIVE, but will in no event <br />exceed 1H:1.SV. <br />1 <br />' 6-10 <br />
