SHELTON, Director
February 20, 1987
Mr. Richard Mills
Senior Environmental Engineer
Twentymile Coal Company
P. O. Box 897
29515 Routt county Rd. No. 27
Oak Creek, Colorado 80467
Re: 1986 Annual Hydrologic Report (AHR), Fish Creek Tipple, C-81-036
Dear Mr. Mi11s:
The Division has reviewed the 1986 AHR and is very pleased with the new format
and content changes. The report incorporates modification requests made
following both the Division's review of the 1985 AHR and the Monitoring
Reduction revision (TR-86-O1 ). The Division noted that the Dissolved Oxygen
parameter was missing from the data print-outs, despite quarterly reporting of
this parameter. In the future, if it would not be too difficult, the Division
would like to have statistical analyses conducted on flows of effluent and
surface water sites. The new format is a great improvement from previous
reports.
The Division is very concerned with the quality of the field conductivity
measurements. Despite a mid-year purchase of a new meter, conductivity values
are still running lower than total dissolved solids concentrations, when the
reverse relationship should be observed (Table 1).
TABLE 1: Comparison of 1986 Average Total Dissolved Solids Values with
Electrical Conductivity Values
Site TDS EC TDS/EC
008-AU-3 756 823 0.92
008-AW-3 3456 2489 1.39
27A 681 683 1.00
1003 699 671 1.04
62 3353 2595 1.29
15 990 800 1.24
423 Centennial Building, 1313 Sherman Street Denver, Colorado 80203.2273 Tel.
