1

' QUARTERLY REPORT
JANUARY 1985 THROUGH MARCH 1985
WEST ELK COAL COMPANY
SCOPE:
The following is a summary of baseline hydrologic data collected
during the period of January through March, 19841.
' The work accomplished during this period consisted of the
' maintenance and upkeep of eight (8) continuous streamflow gaging
stations, static water level measurements on twentyone (21) ground
water wells, and precipitation data collected from the manual
precipitation gage near the Horse Creek flume. The data obtained
' during the quarter and for the calender year are summarized in
Tables 1 through 30.
' HYDROLOGY:
' The hydrology monitoring program being conducted
conforms with modifications specified in a CMLRD memo from Roy Cox
to Bob Liddle dated August 12, 1983, and with conclusions reached
' and stated in Watec's monitoring report dated February 13, 1984.
Surface Water Monitoring - Streams
The eight continuous flow monitoring stations were visited at
least monthly during this quarter of 1985. Flow records and staff
' gage readings were collected from the recorders, and on the spot
remedial work was performed as might be required to continue
obtaining accurate records. There were records unavoidably lost
' to equipment vandalism and frozen stilling we 11 floats.
Flow measurements are presented in Tables 1 through 8.

' -83-
