• as well as data for 1998, aze presented for this Artnual Report in the following exhibits:
Exhibit 1 -Creeks -Surface Water Information, Goodspring Creek and Taylor Creek Water Data.
Exhibit 4 -Alluvial Wells -Ground Water Information, Gossazd Well, North Goodspring Well and
A-6 Wells.
SURFACE WATER
To monitor any potential effect of the mining operation on the adjacent surface waters of Goodspring
Creek the New Upper Goodspring (NLJGSC) stream site is utilized to characterize conditions found
upstream of mining activity and the Lower Goodspring (LGSC) stream site is utilized to characterize
conditions found downstream of mining activity. The Taylor Creek (LTC) site is utilized to
chazacterize conditions found downstream of the West Pit mining and the Loadout areas.
Goodspring Creek
Fieid monitoring and laboratory analysis at both the New Upper and the Lower Goodspring Creek
sites did not indicate any results or trends that aze problematic from a quality or quantity aspect. The
data indicates normal anticipated seasonal variations. The data suggests there is no impact from the
Colowyo mining operation on the quantity and quality of surface water in Goodspring Creek.
Tavlor Creek
• The flows in Taylor creek continue to reflect more normal regional weather conditions as opposed
to the neaz drought conditions we have experienced during the recent past (1990 through 1995).
Taylor Creek maintained continuous flow in 1998. No changes in water quality were evident. The
data suggests there is no impact from the mining operation on the quantity and quality of surface
water in Taylor creek.
GROUNDWATER
To monitor any potential groundwater impacts due to the Gossazd Coal Loadout facility, Colowyo
currently utilizes one down gradient monitoring well (Gossazd Well). To monitor any potential
groundwater impacts due to mining activities, Colowyo currently utilizes one down gradient
monitoring well (North Goodspring Well) and one up gradient monitoring well (A-6 Well).
Gossazd Well
A review of the data does not indicate any changes or problems with groundwater quality associated
with the Gossazd Coal Loadout Facility.
North Goodspring Well
A review of the data does not indicate any changes or problems with groundwater quality associated
with mining activities.
•
