~~
David Berry
March 1, 1990
Page 2

MLRD COMMENT:
S rp ings
1. Flow and field parameters were not recorded for Spring A2 during
April. Although it is appreciated that two measurements were made each
month, during March and May, the intent of the monitoring plan is to
quantify the approximate peak flow period. This often occurs in
April. Please explain the reason for missing the April measurement,
and please verify that monthly sampling will occur during future runoff
periods.
As discussed for Spring A2 above, the Spring C-1 was not sampled during
April, 1988: We acknowledge that additional samples were taken at
other times; however, the April measurement is considered to be very
important. Please explain the omission.
3. The comments at number 3 above also apply to Spring D.
RESPONSE:
JThe spoil springs were monitored as per the plan except for the April
reading. Depending on snow melt peak flows from the springs can occur
during April or May. It is CYCC's intent to follow the approved program and
all attempts will be made to obtain spoil spring flows during April. The
person responsible for obtaining the spring measurements is no longer
employed by CYVCC, therefore, it is not possible' to determine the exact
reason for not obtaining a flow measurement during April.
MLRD COMMENT:
4. Were Springs B-3, F, H, I, 0, EP-87-1, EP-87-2 and M2-87-1 dry during
May, 1988? If not, why were they not sampled?
RESPONSE:
Spring B-3 was flowing during the monitoring period, however a sample was
not obtained for full suite analysis. Spring C-1 was used as the sampling
point for full suite analysis for this portion of the mine. Springs A, B,
and C are all in the same immediate area, and it was decided to use Spring
C-1 as the sampling point. The field parameters for Spring B-3 are as
follows: Flow - 24 gpm, pH - 7.01, EC - 3530, temp. - 11oC. Springs F, H,
I and 0 was not discharging during the monitoring episode. Springs EP-87-1
and EP-87-2 had insignificant distharge and were not sampled. Springs R,
and M2-81-1 were not discharging during the sampling episode.
MLRD COMMENT:
5. Please locate Spring 1861100 on the spoil spring map, and add it to
Table 1 of the Annual Hydrology Report.
