S.Z Pond 1 Maintenance
Maintenance of Pond 1 included weekly inspection of (I) drainage rates to the pond from the
mine retorts, (2) the leak detection vauh, and (3) genera! liner and pond condition. GSHI
periodically uses an enhanced evaporation system at the pond consisting of a gasoline motor,
pump, headers, and S sprayers. The system was not operated during 2001.
6.0 Anticipated Reclamation in the Year 2002
The 0.14 acres that were disturbed in 2000 bas revegetated naturally, and the area will be
monitored for future reclamation needs. If necessary, GSHI will conduct revegetation work
(reseeding) on the estimated 0.14 acre that was disturbed in the Fall of 2002. This disturbance
was associated with repair activities on the retort discharge pipeline.
GSHI is in the process of reviewing reclamation specifications for the Logan Wash Mine Site;
however, the schedule for the work has nar been fi~lized. During preliminary reclarrmtion
discussions, the BLM (Grand Junction office) has shown a strong ingest in maintaining the
evaporation pond for several uses. It is therefore possible that future reclamation of the pond will
involve minimal construction activities. GSHI will notify DMG as soon as possible regarding its
intent to begin site reclamation and removal from Temporary Cessation status.
7.0 Anticipated Disturbance in the Year 2002
No new disturbance of acreage is anticipated in the year 2002. In 2001, it was anticipated that
GSHI would commence with the design, field testing, and installation of a passive water
treatment system ai Logan Wash Mine. This work did not occur due to other work commitments.
It is now estimated that the water treatment work will be conducted in 2003. DMG will be
notified should GSHI be in position to begin this work in 2002. In either case, a technical
revision under the current mine permit will be prepared and submitted to DMG for approval of
the passive water treatment system or other closure ahernatives.
4 of 4
