ANNUAL RECLAMATION REPORT
CYCC MINES 1, 2 AND ECKMAN PARK
This report addresses the seven federal coal leases and associated private
coal mining operations conducted by CYCC in Routt County, Colorado, as delin-
eated on the enclosed maps titled CYCC Mines 1 5 2 Reclamation and Eckman Park
Reclamation.
The methods of mining employed at CYCC consist of both truck-shovel and
dragline type operations. Topsoil is stripped by scrapers and segregated into
topsoil and subsoil stockpiles. After the mining operation is completed, spoils
are graded to approximately the original contour and subsoil is replaced over
the spoil material followed by the placement of the topsoil. A seedbed is then
prepared and a fast-growing temporary vegetation is planted to stabilize the
site and promote infiltration of precipitation. It is generally accepted that
the root systems developed by the vegetative mulch enhances the early establish-
ment of nutrient cycling for the perennial species which are subsequently
planted into the stubble late in the fall. Contour furrows are installed which
further stabilize the site. A detailed description of the cultural practices
employed as part of the reclamation process is presented in our Mining and
Reclamation Plan (permit no. 79-177) submitted to your office on September 14,
1979.
Enclosed are two maps which delineate the areas in each coal lease and
associated areas which have been disturbed by mining and the subsequent recla-
mation. At present, all areas which have been retopsoiled have also been re-
seeded. Consequently, the major catagories of disturbance are open pit and
spoil, graded spoil, and reseeded. As soon as conditions permit, graded areas
will be retopsoiled and reclamation will progress as approved in our reclamation
plan. The maps also show the number of acres, the date, and the seed mixture
which was planted for area reseeded. Seed mixtures are presented in Table 2 and
are coded to the reclamation maps.
.. .. ..............._.,._........ _ ~~. .~.a.:
