The NSA claim names aze also shown on the map and can be used to aid in <br />identifying individual sites. <br />Mono>ram Pit (Monogram Claim) Photos 1 & 2. <br />The Monogram Pit site is a shallow excavation and also includes a number of <br />small portals. The portals have naturally caved for the most part. One small <br />metal building remains on the site. The Disturbed Area appears to include only <br />the pit floor, and evidence of past reclamation work can be observed. Vegetation <br />is quite weedy, and some knapweed was noted. The vegetation cover appears to <br />be self-sustaining, and woody bushes and shrubs aze spreading onto the site. <br />Buckhom (Buckhorn Claim) Photo 3. <br />-""- - - '~_ Several'small"pits~and-portals-exist all-over-the-hillside in-the-vicinity=of the- - -- - <br />Buckhorn site, so exact identification of the Disturbed Area is a bit uncertain. <br />Many of the sites of past mining activity in this locale show no signs of <br />reclamation work ("pre-law"?). One site was located which had been graded and <br />reclaimed, and which had a good cover of vegetation coming in on the site. The <br />vegetation looks to be well established and flourishing. <br />Great Hesper Pit (Great Hesper Claim) Photos 4 & 5. <br />This site is easily locatable on the crest of a bench (overlooks the Buckhorn area). <br />This site had extensive work conducted in the 1994 - 1995 period by the previous <br />permittee. No erosion problems were noted. The vegetation cover is -well <br />established, but is quite weedy. The road that passes through this site has been <br />closed as part of the prior reclamation work, and this limits access to Sites below <br />the ridgeline and has allowed natural revegetation of the roads to progress quite <br />rapidly in favorable locations. <br />Canopus Mine Photos 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11. <br />This site consists of three old portals and mine sites. The Canopus area is shown <br />on the topo map just to the west of the Bill Bady claim. Reclamation of these <br />three sites has been particulazly successful (see photos), and in fact the sites could <br />be easily overlooked if one does not have a map as a guide to the locations. <br />Vegetation is very well established, there are no drainage problems, and the sites <br />are getting hard to distinguish from the natural surroundings. As part of the past <br />reclamation work, pieces of dead cedar/juniper were placed on the reclaimed <br />sites, and the sites really blend in well with the surroundings. <br />The three Canopus sites are noted as "West," "Middle," and "East" for simplicity <br />of identification. A single steel post was placed on each site to help locate them <br />in the future. <br />Capella Mine Photos 12, 13, 14, 15. <br />The Capella mine site is easily located by following the trail that branches off the <br />road opposite the Arcturus mine site. The access road has been water-barred, <br />which restricts easy access to the site. The site sits astride a small flat ridge. The <br />2 <br />
