Henderson Mini Permit No. 77-342
a February 12, 1
page 3
Grass seed and fertilizer were broadcast concurrently
with the topsoil spreading while seed bed receptivity was
high. Slopes seeded in early summer were showing grass
seedlings by the end of the growing season.
Shrub seeds were also planted in moist locations of East
Branch Reservoir shores and the seepwater entrapment canal,
areas 6 and 20 respectively. Tree density was increased with
the addition of 1,200 more plants in selected locations of
Area 20 and the topsoil berm (Area 21). Other areas with
sparse vegetation were spot reseeded with grass seed.
Salvage materials and construction buildings at Ryan's
camp (Area 12) and near the north topsoil stockpile (Area 21)
were removed in the fall. Totally, about one acre was
scarified, seeded and fertilized.
Phase I construction of Lost Creek Reservoir and ,pipe-
line right-of-way (Area 23) commenced in late spring with
timber clearing. About eight acres of construction
disturbance were final-graded in 1981 and were seeded ,snd
fertilized as construction was completed. Follow-up
revegetation will occur in 1982. Additional construction is
scheduled for the 1983 and the 1985 seasons.
Continued tailing deposition (Area 9) now affects about
567 acres. That figure and the acreage of other disturbances
inside the tailing basin (bypass canal, roads, pipelin~as, and
topsoil removal) total less than the 705 acres of antis:ipated
affected land designated for the tailing basin in the time-
table for December 1981.
Timber was also cleared from 15 acres of the topsoil
stockpile area (Area 21) on the northwest edge of the trailing
basin in preparation for further stockpiling. The timber was
made available to employees for firewood.
A road was cut through Area 18 to provide vehicule~r
access between No. 1 and No. 3 tailing dams.
Surety
An update of reclamation costs was completed in May,
1981, following approval in April, 1981, of the amended plan.
Receipt of the update to the bond was confirmed by the Mined
Land Reclamation Division on July 17, 1981. Therefore, no
update of costs is included in this annual report. The
biennial computation of costs for purposes of surety as
specified by the Board will be included in next year's annual
report.
