' A sump pump continues to be utilized for controlling water in the pit. The
' sump located in the northeast corner of the main pit was noted to contain
water. Although at the time of inspection, no visible seepage into the sump
could be detected. It is generally assumed that the sump is locally lowering
the groundwater in advance of the main pit floor. Borehole DH-03-01 from
' the 2003 geotechnical investigation is approximately 200 feet west of the
sump, and was noted during this investigation to still be in place, although
' due to the large amounts of snow on the ground, assessment of water level
was not possible. A discussion with the driller onsite determined that water
level continues to be just below the 6,340 foot elevation in the main pit.
4) In the 2005 report, the rock mass in the southern expansion area was noted
as more massive with fewer discernable foliation surfaces than the rock
' exposed in the main pit of the quarry. More importantly, the average
orientation of the foliation surfaces measured in the expansion area
' between the elevations of 6,990 to 7,075 feet was determined to be
different than the dominant foliation mapped within the middle level and
main pit of the quarry. The average dip of the measurements for this
foliation set (hereinafter referred to as F-2) is 24° to the southwest, whereas
the average dip of the original foliation set F-1 in the rest of the quarry is
39° to the south-southeast. In evaluating the merged dataset for the
' southern expansion area using both the 2004 through the 2007 data, the
average dip of foliation F-2 is 22° to the southwest.
5) During the 2005 evaluation, an occasional foliation was measured that dips
to the north between 38° and 52°. The data collected reflecting this
northerly dip were mainly obtained from the expansion area of the quarry
' from the temporary walls and this orientation has not been found in any
notable quantity in the exposed walls during the current evaluation. This
' foliation set is being referred to as F-3.
-11-
