' S.0 Field Observations
In addition to the structural geology data collected, the following field
observations were also used to evaluate the current quarry conditions:
1) Significant mining progress has occurred in the quarry since the previous
' annual report was prepared in April 2006 (LF&A, 2006), primarily in the
southern expansion and mid-level areas.
2) In the southern expansion area, the fifth bench has been reclaimed (Photo
4), and the sixth is almost completely mined (Photo 5). An approximately
15 foot high bench is currently being excavated along the northern flank of
the southern expansion area below approximately the 6,900 foot elevation
(Figure 2 and Photo 5). In the southern expansion area, discontinuities on
advancing benches were mapped from the south facing exposure only.
3) The mid-level has been excavated to about 30 feet above the main pit and
blasting is now in process along the western margin to continue to bring the
remainder of the mid-level down to the main pit elevation (Photo 3). This
zone has been completely excavated to one bench height above the main
pit, and work is currently being conducted to continue with blasting rounds
occurring along the western edge (Photo 6).
In the main pit, the base elevation of 6,340-feet has not changed since the
2003 annual report was prepared. Some mining has continued in the south
central part of the main pit as the mid level has continued to be excavated.
3) The quarry walls appeared to be relatively dry, although the snow cover was
extensive and made observing this parameter difficult. Noticeably absent is
any major seepage in the southwest corner of the main pit, which had been
documented in prior reports.

-10-
