Dennis Jones
Seneca Coal Company
Page 2
August 16, 2001
2. SCC provided a good discussion on groundwater quality trends and comparative analysis
with water quality standazds. On several occasions, samples from groundwater monitoring wells
exceeded the Basic Standards for Ground Water provided in CDPHE Regulation No. 41.
Specifically, SCC indicates that pH, boron, iron, and manganese exceeded the applicable
CDPHE standard.
Please note that the Division has adopted changes to our surface and groundwater monitoring
Rules as of March 21, 2001 (refer to Rule 4.05.13). The rule changes incorporate compliance with
applicable groundwater standards at established points of compliance. The Division is in the process
of implementing the point of compliance rules. Additional information regazding downgradient
groundwater quality and/or additional groundwater monitoring points maybe required to establish
appropriate points of compliance.
If you have any questions concerning the Division's review of the 2000 AHR, please contact me.
Sincerely,
~~~
Michael P. Boulay
Environmental Protection Specialist
c: Sandy Brown
