Banks and Gesso, LLC
site and several wire and wood fences, which will be removed. The post mining
land use will be a lined reservoir with related wildl'rfe habitat.
Minins~ Plan
Overview
The Applicant proposes to develop the site for mining and processing of sand
and gravel. Approximately 32.5 acres of the total permit area of approximately
52 acres is proposed for mining (see F~khibit C-3, Mining Plan Map). After mining
is complete, the excavated area will be reclaimed as awater-storage reservoir
surrounded by an engineered, impermeable bentonite slurry wall that will be
constructed prior to mining operations below groundwater levels. The edges of
the reservoirs will be reclaimed to shoreline with wetland vegetation gradually
establishing itself.
The post-mining land use of the property is for water storage and wildl'Ife habitat.
Mining Methods
The Applicant proposes to dry-mine the property. Initial mining will occur in the
northern portion of the property and progress southward. Initial mining
operations will include stripping of topsoil and construction of a tailings pond at
the southern end of the property. A slung trench will be constructed around the
perimeter of the property prior to commencement of mining operations below
existing groundwater levels. The slurry wall will be located approximately at a 50
foot offset from the center line of Brighton Road on the east, and at an offset of
approximately 35 feet from the property line in other areas. Depiction of the
slurry wall on the plans herein is based on field locations and may change
according to field conditions.
In order to reduce the cost of slung wall installation, the Applicant proposes to
excavate material across the site to an elevation of 5010 feet. This is
approximately 10 feet below the highest point on the property, but still
approximately 5 feet above existing groundwater levels. The top of cut for this
excavation will be located approximately 40 feet from the centerline of Brighton
Road on the east, and approximately 25 feet from the property line in other
areas. Once an excavation elevation of 5010 feet is reached, slung wall
construction will begin along the perimeter of the permit area. Upon completion
of slurry wall construction, the Applipnt will backfill to original grade to a point
approximately 20 feet offset of the slurry wall. At this point mining will commence
below groundwater at a near vertical slope, with reclaimed reservoir wall
backfilled to a minimum 3:1 slope.
Raw material will be excavated with front-end loaders, excavators, and tractors.
The material may be loaded on a field conveyor in the mining area and conveyed
back to the processing area, or some materials may be excavated with scrapers
or off road haul trucks. Shale material may be pushed up with a bulldozer for
Adams Coungr- WP, Rezonlrp, Final Plat Stapecoeoti MIne.01045
MogAe Premhr Concrete, inc. fVOVembar, 2001
2
