On January 25, 1999 at 0800 WRN personnel
reported excess surface water flowing to the erosion control basin near the scale building. An
investigation of the area indicated water was seeping up in the haul road, used to exit the scale
building. A buried pipeline is in the area where seepage was observed. The source of the seepage
was confirmed when the pump was turned oft at the process pond. The process pond return flow
will remain offuntil pipe is repaired (work scheduled for 1/27/99). [t is difficult to estimate the
amount of leakage. The area is mainly rock where cut was made for facilities and pipeline trench.
Therefore, 25,200 gallons of surface water was removed and was the basis for estimated leakage
of 26,000 gallons. All leakage was contained in erosion control basins and hauled to process
pond. As leakage was contained on the facility area, no damage to the surrounding vegetation is
anticipated.
If there are any questions, please contact Bob Warneke or me.
Sincerely,
~~J~!~~
Ed Baker, REM
EnvironmentaUSafetyhanager
cc: Colorado DMG
Corporate E/S PAanager
White Rlvar Nahcolite Mlnarals, Llmlted Llablllty Company
P.
