<br />' Only hand-guided mechanical tampers or hand-guided vibratory rollers shall be used for <br />compaction azound, over, near, or adjacent to pipes, culverts, and concrete structures. <br />' 7.0 GEOTEXTILE <br />The Contractor shall furnish, place and install a geotextile fabric beneath the embankment raise <br />' fill where founded directly on the tailings. Geotextile fabric shall be platted prior to fill <br />placement in accordance with the manufacturer's written recommendations. All geotextile fabric <br />' sheets shall be overlapped a minimum of 2 ft on adjoining sheets. The geotextile fabric shall <br />consist of a 8 oz/ydZ, non-woven geotextile fabric with an apparent opening size of 100 (US <br />standard sieve size). <br />8.0 SURVEY MONUMENTS <br />' The Contractor shall furnish and install permanent survey monuments along the existing 8590 <br />ft elevation embattlartent bench (original crest of the main embankment), the existing 8605 ft <br />' elevation embankment crest, and the crest of the Raise 2 embankment. These tonuments shall <br />be installed at 100 ft center-to-center spacing. The Contractor shall submit typical details for <br />the monuments for the Engineer's approval. The Contractor shall also provide initial base line <br />' readings for the monuments. <br />' 9.0 SETTLEMENT MARKERS <br />The Contractor shall furnish and install settlement markers at the base of the raise fill where <br />' founded on the tailings. The markers shall provide a means for monitoring consolidation in the <br />tailings as the fill is placed. <br />' The settlement markers shall consist of a 3 fr by 3 ft piece of 5/8 inch thit:k marine grade <br />plywood placed at the base of the fill. A steel pipe fitting and riser pipe shall be securely <br />' affixed to the plywood and isolated from the raise fill with a pipe sleeve which fits loosely over <br />the riser pipe. Both the riser pipe and pipe sleeve shall be raised as the fill is placed to maintain <br />' an adequate level above the fill for readings. The settlement markers shall be installed at 100 <br />ft spacing beneath the upstream edge of the raise crest and at 200 ft spacing beneath the <br />downstream edge of the raise crest. The Contractor shall be responsible for prt:venting damage <br />' to [he settlement markers until final acceptance of the work by the Owner. <br />1 <br /> -is- <br />' <br /> <br />
