However, there are some
concerns about water quality on wells AA1 and AA3.
Well AAl had a relatively high TDS reading of 584 on 12/31/92. In 1991 the
TDS was only 188. IN 1990 the TDS was 2714.
OF' ~~(O
e
_ 4
ti
~'>; o
. ~~a~.
~ 1876
Roy Romer
Governor
Michael B Long
Division Director
Well AA3 had several readings in 1992 that exceeded EPA and State water
quality standards. Dissolved sodium was 639. State drinking water standards
indicate that sodium should not exceed 250. In 1991 sodium was 412. Sulfate
was 1194. In 1991 it was 747. The secondary drinking water standard for
sulfate is 250. The TDS reading was 2654. In 1991 TDS was 2056. In 1990 TDS
was only 174. Manganese also exceeded state drinking water standards in
1992. It was 3.96 in 1992. In 1991 manganese was only .26. The drinking
water standard for manganese is .05. The CHIS for the North Fork of the
Gunnison River indicated that two alluvial wells at Bear No. 3 mine exceeded
drinking water standards for TDS, Sodium, and Sulfate.
In addition, there were no references made to visual inspections for oil and
grease in the AHR. According to the Hydrologic Monitoring Plan 2.04.30t the
alluvial wells will be visually inspected quarterly and that data will be
included in the AHR.
7769E/scg
