• Conclusions <br />The following conclusions aze provided based upon analysis of the data: <br />• <br /> <br />• Overall survival based on original density data by planting unit ranged from 43% to 86% <br />(Table 19). Planting Unit 94-1 had the lowest percent survival. Low survival numbers <br />aze likely due to continuous and intensive browse by elk, deer, and marmots. Browse <br />damage is further expressed by the lack of growth in plants. A majority of plants visited <br />were not significantly taller or more branched than when originally planted. Root <br />systems, however, were examined and demonstrated substantial growth. Intensive <br />browse control efforts such as the application of tree protectors, deer proof fencing, and <br />hunting are necessary to increase plant survival and growth on all sites. <br />Table 19.
